Drove through Coronado National Monument and then took the Coronado Peak trail. It is only about 1/2 mile but climbs 300 feet. Really enjoyed the introductory video about Coronado at the ranger station. Lucky for the native Indians that he ended up in Kansas! The video made the information plaques along the trail more interesting.

Very nice short trail, strenous but so short it does not matter... 0,4 mile one-way. Trailhead is at the top of the Montezuma Pass scenic drive. From the parking, the overlooks offers views of the Pass in both direction, east and west... but do not stay there, hike to the top ! The trail brings you up to the top... More

Had some time to spare and drove over to the Monument and then up to the peak. The road is reasonable, bit bumpy so do not go there with sports cars. parked at the top and hiked up to the peak. The views were stunning and gave a great sense of the vastness of the southwest just by looking across... More

We came for the cave but the ranger suggested the extra drive. Well worth it! Gorgeous views though a bit scary on the turns at times. If you get this far, you need to finish it with the hike up to the peak. Again, great views! BTW, make sure you try on the conquistador helmet, mail, and sword that's in... More

The .5 miles is well worth taking to get to the crest of Coronado Peak, and the scenic drive up to the trailhead is almost as neat as the crest itself. The park has done a great job with trail markers and historical plaques commemorating Coronado's expedition. Be aware, however, that pets are not allowed on the trails of the... More
