very cool and hip place to hang around for the nightlife. many casual pubs but also posh hotels with stunning views and expensive looking clubs.
We walked through that place several hours to feel the atmophere .We are from Central- Eastern Europe, and im our grad-grand parents came to N.Y. they would probably stay somwhere like in 103 Orchard Street tenement . We felt the history, our history, the history of our often lost families from neighborhood our villages in Moravia.
I loved this part of NY, It was so cool. there were plenty of little deli's and eateries. Also all of the food carts seem to be cheaper here. If you go to the financial district you are paying $4-5 for a hotdog, lower east side you are paying $1.50. Also there are several little pizza places that have a... More
We stayed at a friends apartment in the Lower East Side and it was in an area where you could afford to get a bite to eat, or do an attraction without breaking the bank. It has beautiful parks, and lots of cool nightlife. It has all of this without the Midtown prices. One of our favorite areas of NYC,... More
The South Street Seaport is closing. 5Ptz is closing. There is a Dunkin Donuts on East Houston Street. Please visit this area and spend before they replace Katz Deli with a MacDonalds. Orchard Street shopping, Tenement Museum, Synagogues, Great Bars. Go.

The beauty of the neighborhood is that even as the efforts... More
In general the area is underdeveloped. Bars are small but okay if you pay attention to their uniqueness. Comedy shows are partially funny. Somethines I have good time there, but fun is not garateed.
Very much a "real" feel to this area. The shopping is varied and not overpriced. Some of the best delis in the city are there. Best to put on your walking shoes and just go for it. There is something for everyone. Just a short walk to Little Italy and Chinatown.
