There were two outstanding special exhibits when I visited: The Greatest Grid and Activism in New York. It is a small museum, very beautiful. The film about the city's history is worth the visit.

Travel a little farther north to visit this interesting museum about the city's history. When we visited there was an extensive exhibit detailing how the city's street grid was laid out and built, with old maps and photos, as well as an exhibit of police photos taken in the 1970s. Also don't miss the short film exploring NYC's history, from...

I've been to all of the touristy places in NYC, and most of the major museums. I had an afternoon to kill and decided to find out what this museum was all about. I'm so glad I did. Suggested donation is $10. This tiny museum, which would be a great venue for an evening event, tells the history of the...

Located at the northern end of Museum Mile, the Museum of the City of NY has extensive collections on the City's history. We saw one on the 200th anniversary of the development of the City's street grid. It was fascinating! Great for history buffs.

I'm not sure if many people know about this museum on 103rd St and it doesn't appear on the 'best of' lists but it has an interesting exhibition about the growth of NY and the innovative grid design that has shaped this huge city. Consider it if you have nothing to do one afternoon.

It is likely that my title is incorrect as I am sure this museum would also be of interest to urban planners and builders, but to the average tourist, much of this museum was of little interest.
I did enjoy it, but it did not hold my attention or interest.

I love NY any time, any year; however, I had never before visited the museum of NY. During our stay in March , 2012, there was an exhibit called "the Greatest Grid" and off we went.....to this wonderful building on Fifth Ave and 103rd St. The exhibition was fascinating to a former New Yorker as well as to others in...

Visited the museum last weekend specifically to view The Grid exhibit. My husband and I really enjoyed the exhibit, my teen boys less so. Viewing the 22 min film, Timescapes, helped bring the exhibit to life for my children. At one point, a curator gathered in the center of the exhibit space to describe some of the history of the...

Most of the displays are informative and interesting, but the history film (25 mins) on New York is a must see. Make this a first stop on your visit!
