Slick Rock Trail, a 4 mile round trip was the best hike to see the various terrain in the park in a short amount of time. There are numerous hikes in the Needles Area of this huge park.

Another splendid NP in UT/AZ area. We could only go and see Island in the Sky, due to time pressure. The view is fantastic from different spots but a bit frustrating: you really want to get closer to the canyons downstairs. You can do it with Shaffer (dirt) road if you have a strong 4X4 and no fear of height!!!...

Canyonlands is as advertised; a majestic panorama of canyons within canyons. Sitting amid these canyons are towering monuments of stone. It is possible to be overwhelmed by simply driving from viewpoint to viewpoint and never walking further than 200 yards at any one time.
Certainly one can get a fuller perspective by hiking the trails, but it is not necessary....

We did not spend as much time in Canyonlands as we did Arches but what we did see was majestic! It is beautiful and a completely different experience than Arches. If you are considering not going because you think it will be more of the same thing, you must go...you will not be dissapointed!

We visited both the Island in the Sky area and the Needles area. I much preferred the Needle area was less crowded and felt like true wilderness.

Island in the Sky District was interesting. Needles District was fantastic. We hiked to Chesler Park. Glad we didn't try to go further. It's not just a walk in the park. It's almost scrambling. Great, helpful, staff in both visitor centers.

Mesa arch at sunrise is beautiful! If you want to photograph it, get there early. We got up at 2:30am (stayed in Moab). We arrived at the trailhead at 3:50am, walked the short 1/4 mile or so to the arch and were the first ones there so we had our pick of spots for our tripods. Plan to leave Moab...

Vast canyons with an array of colors...a smaller version of the Grand Canyon. Great hikes and lots of wildflowers. Beautiful!
Worth the trip.
