We hiked the Needles district - it's spectacular. Not much more to say. It takes awhile to get there but it's worth it. I would love to camp there but in the high season the chances of finding a spot are slim to none.

It's Canyon Lands National Park, people! It's standing and staring at the great art of the Southwest, but you're in it, not staring at a painting of it. The sheer, stark, raw, powerful, awe-inspiring beauty of the desert, up close and personal. Bring a hat & lots of water, go during the spring or fall unless you're a Disneyland in... More

As the title states, I only went to one section of the park. It's certainly not as picturesque as Arches, but with all of the regions that make up Canyonlands, there's plenty to explore. Absolutely see Mesa Arch (a drive up and short walk) in the afternoon - best pics of the day. Hope to visit the Needles District next.... More

I give this a similar review to Arches - Some spectacular structures and views with plenty of photo opportunities. There is water available at the visitor centre but no other refreshments available in the park, don't expect Grand Canyon facilities. we drove the entire park and did some short hikes, its gets very hot here, half a day or so... You have to see it to believe it. The Grand Canyon is great as one extremely long and deep canyon, but Canyonlands have so many more and the colors are so different. One wonders how about the first travelers up Shaffers Trail, which now can be accessed only by 4 wheel drive vehicles. However, I got to stand at the... More

Great park that you must see! I can't believe how many people/TV adds get this confused with the Grand Canyon. It bugs me... However there wasn't a lot of hiking or other things to do here unless you go down into the canyon. I'm not complaining but its just a heads up... I wish I had known more about the... More

I visited Cayonland National Park a couple hours before sunset, and there were hardly any other visitors. The very helpful people (Gretchen and Garth) in the Visitor Center recommended a great, short little hike for us. It was at the end of the park and was only .8 mi out (and.8 mi back) to a peninsula into the canyon. The... More

Although I would recommend Arches if you could only visit one park in the Moab area, Canyonlands 'Island in the Sky" area is well worth a visit. The highlights are Mesa Arch (very easy trail), Upheaval Dome (uphill trail - fairly strenuous) and Grand Point - (moderate trail with panoramic view at the end point!) Warning - there is no... More

As usual, the Park Service was friendly, informative and helpful. The roads were well maintained as were the trails. The views were very different than those at Arches, Bryce, Zion and Capitol Reef.

We visited both Canyonland NP and Arches NP and we preferred Canyonland. There were less people visiting it as it is about 40 miles out of Moab and Arches is a couple miles. The visitors center in very nice and we watched a 15 video describing the area and with some history of it. In the Arches, tourist buses empty... More
