You go here to take pictures. It is nearly a straight shot off of Steiner from Lombard street, very easy to get to. There is a nice grassy park right in front (Alamo Square) of the "Painted Ladies" (row of colorful Victorian homes) with a great view of the city behind so it's a great photo-op. On a weekday we... Alamo sq is one of SF many parks, this might be one of the smallest but the view you get on the victorian houses and on downtown are the same as the one you see in postcards! Great place! More

One of the best things about San Francisco is the various shapes, sizes, colours and designs of it's houses. The architecture is just stunning. No boring carbon copies filling row after row of streets. This is the perfect city if, like me, you like quirky, individual style. The best example of this is The Painted Ladies. Each one is different... More

This is a great place to visit if you have some time to sit and relax. The houses themselves are not spectacular, in fact there are some really beautiful houses just a few blocks away. But everyone who has some time to sit a rest should visit the hill in front of the houses. Its a great place to enjoy... More

Alamo Square and the painted ladies are well worth travelling across San Francisco to see if youve got the time. Parking on the square can be a nightmare, but it's well worth being a little patient as people do move on and spaces become available. Walk to the top of the hill on the square garden for the best view... More

Alamo Square with its Victorian or Painted ladies as they're known is another of those must sees. Like the Golden Gate Bridge the row of famous houses is what many of us think of when we think of San Francisco. The surrounding area is chocked full of lovely homes and interesting architecture. More

These grand Victorians are an Icon of San Francisco's Victorian days gone by, however folks have fixed them up to their once original splendor. They are privately owned residences and behind them is the new more modern skyline that one can see from the park at Alamo Square. More

I must confess to having a certain fondness of old houses and especially the Victorian style architecture. For those who do appreciate architecture and are visiting this city, Alamo Square should prove to be a highlight. Architecture buffs might want to avoid seeing this place on a tour which might offer a quick glance at this area's charms. Rather, a... More
