This was the highlight of my trip. Really good collection showing many big names: Rothco, Hirst, Magritte, Pollock, Picasso, Guston, Warhol. The organization was a bit wierd but I guess that's to be expected. Thusday nights are half-price.

The museum is closing in June for a remodel and expansion. It's a much needed update to a space that doesn't always work. But there's still a few weeks left to catch the Winogrand show. In full disclosure, I'm a photographer and have an affinity for his work. This show is above & beyond with images never seen and/or printed...

The Clock is an amazing piece of cinema editing art shown in an intimate viewing room with sofa seating. The film comprised of slices of many, many film scenes of people and places commenting on the time. The film action follows the actual time. You have to see it to understand how enjoyable and intriguing it is.
The current Winogrand retrospective was a delight for someone who has been in many of the same places at the same time. The permanent collection offers a variety of works from various artists that shows the broad spectrum of modern art, not quite as well as New York MOMA does.
Cindy Sherman's Retrospective takes this museum over the top...don't know if I would have felt that way w/out it. As someone used to theMet, it felt like a small museum. But the photo exhibit was BIG!! For any art n culture lover , it is a must see along w/ the deyoung n Legions of Honor Museums.
Like a number of modern / contemporary art museums, it's about the special exhibits. If you become engaged with them, your visit will be fabulous, if not, not. Their permanent collection has some wonderful pieces that we saw during our visit. I wonder what lays in the closets. If you are into this genre of art, its' worth a visit...

Gary Winogrand’s retrospective at the SFMOMA, until June 2. Catch it before it leaves for New York, Paris and Madrid.

Despite this generous pedigree...

I've been to this museum several times and never tire of the experinence. I see something new or something I missed the last time each and every time I go. If you have never been, go. If you have been before, go back.
Taking a break from our shopping spree, we decided to take it easy and spend morning at the museum. I had purchased the SF City Pass and it was one of the attractions offered with free admission. I was pleasantly surprised that my daughter actually enjoyed herself. It was interesting and quirky enough to amuse her. I love the 3...
