Definitely a beautiful "Grand Canyon" type of experience. The drive wasn't bad at all. It took about an hour and a half to get there from Poipu. Love all the roosters and chickens everywhere! Unfortunately the fog was rolling in as we got there so we couldn't see the east coast of the island and we had to keep outrunning... More

It seems a long way to travel if you are staying on the north shore of Kaua'i for what could be a view of fog but between the clouds there are some amazing views. Don't go if you are squeamish about heights, or don't go too close to the edge. Hard to get a good photo because it is so... More

From Lihue Airport the drive took us about 60 minutes to reach our destination. Though for some the road up to the canyon will be windy, the road is very good. The views at the end are well worth the trip and if I happen to be on Kaua'i again, I will certainly pay the Canyon another visit.

Waimea Canyon is absolutely beautiful and a lovely drive to get there. It is like our Grand Canyon but on a much smaller scale and with vegetation growing on the rocks since it is in a rain forest. There were some sights we could not enjoy because of the thick fog. We were told the views there are usually better... More

The road up to the canyon is switchbacks all the way up.. Hot and humid, but beautiful scenery all the way to the top. The Waimea Canyon is unreal. You can't find the words to describe the ultimate beauty that awaits you there. I had no idea it would be so breathtaking.. a MUST SEE for all Kauhi visitors...

Image the Grand Canyon on one side and the Pacific coast on the other. That is Waimea Canyon. It's a long drive to the end of the road, but well worth it. There are lots of cruise ship buses at the first overlook, but the buses don't seem to venture any further into the canyon. If you have your own... More
