Baumgartner's was not a planned stop on the trip, however, we ended up in Monroe, WI and wanted a place to get a beer and some food. We chose Baumgartner's and have no regrets. The staff was very friendly, and it seemed that they were really trying to make sure the customers had a great experience. The cheese sandwiches are... More

I ate here with a group of coworkers and it was highly recomended by the locals. The menu is pretty small really and screams "bar food" to me. I was limited to a "cheese sandwich". Sure you can choose from a few different cheeses for your cheese sandwhich but thats not "real" variety to me. It was some cheese and... More

This was our 1st time to Baumgartner's. Walking in takes you back to an old time cheese store / bar. The staff was very friendly ( Lots of waiters on hand ), so you never really had to wait too long for anything. The beer selection was plentiful and sandwiches were good. More

. . . when I was a little girl and now I bring my granddaughters. I love this place and I've been known to arrange road trips from IL just to buy Swiss cheese. (Make a pan of baked macaroni and cheese using Baumgartner's Swiss and you'll never eat the yellow stuff again. ) More

There are curbside tables and interior seating, a bar area and an area to purchase cheese. The interior seating is typical 40's tables and chairs, and people are willing to have you join them on the larger tables in the back. There is a back entrance off the alley but I don't advise it unless you are "gutsy". The staff... More

Just like I remember it from the '50's. Sandwich was excellent (ham and swiss) and the service was very good. Be sure and have the server pitch a buck up to the ceiling, she was GOOD!! The interior is really interesting, lots of murals and funny signs all over the place. Looks just like a place that was founded in... More

Great cheese sandwiches and chili. I love this place. We have been going here every year since I was a kid. I am 31 now. The local beer selection is awesome too. More

If all small towns were like Monroe, Wisconsin, no one would live in big cities. It's like something out of the 60's. Baumgartner's is great, right on the courthouse square in a town that still has a thriving downtown.. A number of tables were occupied, so I sat at the bar to have a locally brewed Berhoff root beer and... More
