Yes, it is a large library and it has some beautiful ceilings in the entryway, but unless you are into architecture, I wouldn't list this as a tourist attraction! If you are from out of town, you can't check out any books, and if you are from town, it's much easier to pick any book you want from the County... More

Wonderful old building - an architectural delight. A must see for any lover of books or city history. Great diversity in resources and EXCELLENT librarians and staff. MILWAUKEE excels in their libraries. Love the resale book shop that has great treasures and food/beverages for sale. More

Yes, it is a big and beautiful library. The Romanesque architecture is nothing that nobody hasn't already seen a million times. Interesting to note that the public museum was once housed here. It's fine and if you live in Milwaukee it may have some significance but travelers looking for uniqueness may want to look elsewhere. More

Best way to enter building is from Wells St if you don't like stairs. Once you work out where all the areas are, it's fairly easy to get to what you want. There are desks for laptop users with power outlets and WI-FI access. Later hours would be nice for those who cannot use the library during the day. More

Much like the library in NYC, this is Milwaukee's version, with a twist. Enjoyed a cup of coffee on the front steps. More

They don't build places like this anymore. This building has a beautiful foyer and staircase, but the kids will love climbing up the lighthouse that is located in the children's section. More

We take the kids here somewhat often. They have a great children's library with a lighthouse the kids can climb in and read a book, way high up. The kids library is huge. I don't spend too much time at the adult parts of the library, but I am sure I could find a ton of great books, CDs, movies...... More
