The most famous museum building in the past thirty years is easily the Guggenheim in Bilbao, Spain. But one of the most popular sculptors and architects in the Basque Countries of Spain, around Bilbao, is Santiago Calatrava, and for good reason. One of his truly great creations is this museum on the lakefront in Milwaukee. The lake itself lends much... More

The wings of a great bird are the hovering exterior walls of this fantastic waterside museum. The visitor can take a city bus easily to the downtown waterfront and access this public museum. A delight to experience, in any weather, as only Milwaukee, Wisconsin can offer. Downtown hotels are affordable, old style; food nearby is in all styles and ethnicities... More

I arrived just in time to see the "wings" on the Calatrava raised and lowered. The fact that the museum is itself a piece of movable art is worth a pause, even if you don't go in. But if you do go in, be sure to see the Haitian art section and any special exhibits they have. The kids' sections... More

A very nice collection (including 22 Georgia O'Keefe paintings) in an ultra-modern building on the lakefront. Limited parking available underneath the building. The day I was there the lobby was swarming with kids doing art projects. Luckily, there weren't in the museum itself. Would have liked to seen more decorative arts displayed, but thought, overall, their collection was nice for... More

Really nice collection - something to interest everyone, including kids. There is a new education center/open studio specifically for children and admission is free for those 12 and under. Adult admission is $15. Underground parking is a nice luxury, although less expensive options may be available nearby. Lunch onsite at Café Calatrava is decent and you can enjoy the view... More

As an avid amateur photographer, I kept coming back to see the building at different times of the day and night, under different lighting conditions, wings-open and wings-closed. Every angle of the building is impressive and on the inside, it feels like standing in a cathedral. I spent a whole morning experiencing the different exhibits. Both the scope and the... More

Surprisingly great for Milwaukee but compared to other major art museums it is a bit rough. The new addition, of course, is wonderful and eye catching but also a little under used. Inside the massive addition is a huge, empty room and two large hallways with very little content. To get nit picky, the design of the Calatrava add-on, while... More

This is a fabulous museum with a wonderful collection. If you are anywhere in the area (Chicago is only 90 miles awasy) it is well worth a visit. You won't regret it. More

Did you know that the outside "sails" of the museum move three times a day? Amazing to watch - takes about 8 minutes total. Just one of the interesting things about this museum. Quite an extensive collection of all sorts of art - not the Art Institute but very good and worht a trip. We were delighted to find the... More
