This is a very nice State Museum in a beautiful building. I learned a lot about West Virginia that I did not know.

Being a native West Virginia I had never taken the time to visit the museum. I was impressed with the displays, stories and artifacts of the state's history. A good time spent learning about the history of the people of WV.

I would recommend the State Museum to anyone visiting Charleston. It included a wealth of material on the state's history and culture, both the good and the bad, and well organized. The museum had a little bit of everything to hold everyone's attention. It was well organized. We loved the one area that looked like you were walking through a coal mine. While walking through each section you can hear a narrator over head describing the particular time periods and events. We really appreciated that as we were short on time... More

The kids loved it, and so did I. If you get a chance, visit this place. It's free of charge and very informative. So much stuff to look at and learn about, and child would love it!

After a long down time and uncertain period, the state museum is back up and running and offers a nice free activity to kill time in the capitol city.
