We went on the free guided tour. The guide was very friendly and well informed. He was very patient with the children in our group. It was a wonderful experience and I can't wait to bring my grandchildren when the get old enough. More

Worth the visit. $5.00 entry/parking fee is worth it. 2 paths to take up (1 1/4 mi.) or down (3/4 mi.) the lava tube. Or walk outside trails to the top (1 1/3 mi.) More

Our kids took a trip up here and had such a wonderful time. They convinced us to take a trip and hike around. The experience is well worth it. More

Ape caves is a well developed lava tube within the Gifford Pinocet National Forest. Bring a flashlight and walking shoes. Lots of parking with a little walk to the caves. Easy to moderate tube sections to walk through. Very fun and a beautiful drive in through the forest. More

Had only been to Lava Canyon once before, and that was several years ago. Went again this past weekend with my husband and our dog. It was the first nice weekend we've had since last summer, so we knew there would be crowds and arrived early. The canyon, while not Grand Canyon spectacular, was still beautiful and spectacular in it's... More

Just had a girls trip to Ape Caves. It is AMAZING, fun, creepy, challenging and exillerating all at the same time. BE PREPARED! Can be very dangerous if flashlight stopped working! Bring back up! Bring Gloves. Give yourself plenty of time! Upper caves are more difficult. Snow was still on ground on return trail. PROPER shoes a must! Cave was... More
