This museum and the surrounding grounds are a nice place to take a break during a long drive through the area. I would not drive specifically to see this museum, but if in the area- an excellent one hour stop.

Fantastic grounds, beautiful museum...reminds me of Hearst Castle in California! Amazing exhibits, 4 floors to discover...loved the unique pieces they had here...Worth the money to come visit!

A bit pricy for the whole family. Unfortunatly much of their native american exhibit was stolen. Still I found the history of the builder and the exhibits worth the time.

We came here after seeing a special on OPB about the Columbia Gorge and Sam Hill. Sam Hill was a rich eccentric who fell in love with the Gorge and built a beautiful mansion for his wife- who didn't want to live anywhere outside of the Midwest. Her loss is now our gain after Sam gave up pleasing his wife...

There is a lot to see and do. You should allow 2-3 hours minimum. There are rotating exhibits that come and go - we saw an Andy Warhol exhibit that was amazing. There is also an art show there every summer that is worth the trip.

Maryhill Museum is one of the outstanding museums in the Northwest. Located overlooking the Columbia River, the castle and the story of Sam Hill and his women is itself amazing. We loved the area for views. The museum has lovely grounds for strolling. Interesting art objects. Guidebooks overstate the "gourmet cafe" so expectations don't match: museum-pricey, plastic cutlery, etc., just a nice place to snack and rest while at the museum. Not a destination for "cafe and art" until the new cafe is ready? I wish there was more of...

The museum is housed in the former mansion of Sam Hill a railroad millionaire. The collection consists of furniture and jewlery of Queen Marie of Romania, an eclectic mix of paintings, Theatre da la Mode (fashion dolls), Rodin, chess sets and several other collections.
