This is a great ride for kids, and the scenery is nice. You might get a whiff of the engines if the wind blows back on you, and the end point is not anything great. But it goes through nice countryside, and gives a glimpse of a time when railroads dominated the landscape. More

You can't go wrong with a half day trip on the Mount Rainier Scenic Railroad. Whether you are going by yourself or with family and kids, you are in for a fun three hour trip behind a historic steam locomotive. And if MRSR isn't enough reason to drive into the area, Mount Rainier National Park is a stones throw away,... More

The steam locomotive is becoming scarce so to ride behind one was interesting. I was a bit disappointed that quite a bit of the trip was through trees that cut down on the view. They slowed down in an open area to see the mountain. More

I made reservations in advance and looked at the reviews on tripadvisor the night before our trip. I was VERY nervous after reading the reviews. I was happily surprised when our family had a really great afternoon/evening together on this train ride. We arrived about 45 minutes early and checked in easily and got in the general waiting area. There... More

Looking at the website, we (a party of 4) purchased the tour. We had a "glimpse" of Mt Rainier one time each way. Apart from that, it was all trees that we were able to see. The train was ok but overall the tour fell way below our expectations. More

Pros-Inexpensive entertainment, unique experience, great staff, historical, there was a car that was open air, accessible (great for those with mobility issues), you can (and should) bring your own picnic and snacks) and took reservations (so you didn't get all the way there and be turned away. Cons-Dirty (the smoke from the train was something my wife wasn't prepared for and... More

My friend and I purchased a ticket for the railroad on GroupOn and thus paid 1/2 price. All I can say is, thank goodness it was 1/2 price because even that was too much. What a joke! They could really make the train ride fun. They could add some people in costumes acting out the old west, have a speaker... More

Well it is a train ride...if that is what you want. Only one view from a bridge of Mt. Rainer...but you are better off driving into Mt Rainer Park for better picture taking spot of the Mt Rainer. The "picnic spot at the lake" is yuck. On the bright side...the train staff were very friendly and the concession stand on... More

I thought it would be worthwhile to ride the train and buy the BBQ lunch. Not much to see. We sat on the Caboose with a screaming kid. There were streams and too much overgrowth, we could barely see the mountains and they call it scenic. As we were last on the train, we expected a BBQ lunch, when we... More
