Very well done exhibits in a walkable, small building constructed in 2008. Admission is free. It is within walking distance to the historic Old Roanoke Hotel.

I love love love going to local museums and had nothing but high hopes for this one. The visit started out fine and went down hill from there. First, it's free which is a big plus for the budget conscious. But now I realize that the security people that work there must have been trained by the Gestapo. My first... More

Truly impressive collection for a small city, supplemented by frequent temporary installations on tour. Items on display rotate frequently and blend the contemporary with the "classic." At any point, about 50% of the collection on display is contemporary. Small exhibit booklets are available free of charge in most galleries. Art Venture, an exploratory art space for kids, has been recently... More

Very pretty museum with interesting exhibits. Just right for my taste - a pleasant walk through without committing a whole day, but giving plenty to think about.(Their "50 Great American Artists" is a good "think about it collection" with nothing spectacular but you leave thinking about who they left out.) I found the outstanding thing about the Taubman was the... More

An unexpected find in a rural town, an iconic building with excellent exhibition spaces. Very good museum shop and activities.

We enjoyed a quick browse through the museum and I particularly enjoyed the Judith Leiber exhibit! The cafe was great for a refreshment and loved the outdoor seating on one of the first nice days of spring.

We regularly visit art museums wherever we go (both in the US and overseas). The Taubman Museum of Art is one the best we have ever visited! The architecture is stunning and the use of the striking atrium to enclose a giant pink inflatable sculpture was especially impressive. Each exhibit had a handout that provided a very thorough description of... More

This wonderful building holds some impressive art! When I went there were no temporary shows up, but the permanent collection is rather nice. There's an awesome gift shop, a kids section, and a quaint little cafe. It was a great place to spend an afternoon!

A stellar collection of works by Thomas Eakins and two family members. Interesting temporary exhibits of primarily abstract objects and paintings. Admission currently is free every day of the week.

This museum was quite beautiful. It also had a terrific and reasonably priced gift shop. There was an entire section dedicated to hands-on children's activity. Our only disappointment was that they were remodeling, so very few exhibits were open. There is no admission price (just donations accepted)!
