The gardens are amazing. Even in the pouring rain. House is impressive. Guide very knowledgeable. Lots of info on the families who resided here.

The mansion tour was led by Liz, who remembered every detail about the home's history and brought the history to life. The garden was inviting and intricate. The kids we observed on our visit were having an exciting time discovering the hidden trails between the shrubs. Well placed benches begged us to sit and spend the afternoon just enjoying this... We spent several hours at this lovely location. My husband and I decided to take to guided tour of the manor house and we were the only people for the 1:00 pm tour. I was wonderful learning about the plantation's history and the history of the people that owned it through the years. The gardens were just coming out with... More

I love this plantation in all seasons, especially Spring gardens and the Christmas tea. I come back year after year and bring out-of-town visitors.

We arranged an evening affair. Cocktails in the side building, a tour of the mansion, and dinner afterward. We were disappointed that after carrying our drinks all the way to the manor house that we had to leave them outside during our walk through (it seems that someone could have told us before leaving the side house that they were... There is absolutely nothing not to like about a wedding at Oatlands Plantation.Throughout the entire year before our daughter's wedding, the staff was gratious, superbly helpful and just plain friendly to work with. The Elizabethan Gardens had just begun to bloom with Fall flowers the week before the wedding; the mansion and grounds provided a beautiful backdrop to what turned... More

Each room has unique decorations, with fresh garland and flowers. Complete tour with formal tea. Book early because formal tea fills up quickly.

It was a cold and dreary day when I made my way out to Oatlands. It is in the middle of Hunt Country and there are only large farms in the vicinity. However I happily found it without too much trouble and lucked out on arriving about 15 minutes before the next tour. Upon arriving at the house after a... More

This is not Mt Vernon but it does have an amazing look into the early world of virginia. The tours are a little patronizing but its OK they have tea here on occaisions but I dont think its meant to be fancy.

Had our wedding there in Aug '12. Had a fantastic time there: both ceremony and reception. The key to this all though was the staff, who were always available to the wife or I to answer questions or provide guidance. We've already said we'll be sure to have our next wedding there as well (tongue firmly in cheek). If this... More
