The kids enjoyed pretending the travellers' shelter was a haunted house. Lots of animal tracks to investigate.
Cross country skied there one morning while on a short midweek vacation. The trails were very marked and there were lots of side trails that led outside the park boundaries to extend the trip. Sure beat paying $22 to ski at von Trapp!
THese woods were right next to our hotel (Stowehof Inn) and we walked across a field (of snow) to get there. The trails were packed snow and easy to navigate. Varied terrain although no good views of Mount Mansfield in the part we hiked.
When snow covered, cross country skies or snow shoes are pretty much required. The trails are wonderful in the snow. There is a good mix of terrain, and a wonderful view from the meadow overlook. Great way to spend an hour or two. Saw five people total while we were there.
The entrance is not well marked, but its 50...

This is a gentle and quiet trail that is suitable for children those who want to take an easy stroll. It is a bit hard to find but look for the wooden sign saying "Wessner trail". Have fun!

Make sure you get directions from the locals-because even when you get...

Quiet,...

Great hiking, waterfall is gorgeous! Kids and do the hike, just be careful at the top - stay left I believe. Read the hiking trail info and follow suit! We did it with our small kids!
