True history at your finger tips. An excellent fieldtrip for the young, a trip down memory lane for the old and fascinating artifacs for everyone in between. Make sure you head upstairs for a treat if you like the stars, and don't forget the affordable gift shop on the way out.

Something for everyone here. Kids will love all the animals! It's hard to believe that one person collected all these different animals and other things in his life time and built a museum to house it all. Worth seeing!

I hope they NEVER replace the wonderful old Victorian glass cases that hold a wealth of interesting exhibits. Well worth a visit.

The Museum hosts an eclectic assortment of items from around the globe. There are taxidermic animals of all sorts including an impressive collection of birds. Upstairs houses (not handicap friendly) a collection of this & that, from Indian artifacts, geological items, toys, Civil War artifacts and other items from various places around the world. Worth a one time visit but... More

What a fun and quirky place!! It is right in the heart of downtown, historic St. Johnsbury and is well worth the visit. Opened in 1891 by Franklin Fairbanks, it is a look into his "cabinet of curiosities." It's like going back in time to see the things that a man of the late 1890s would have collected. It is... More

My favorite kind of museum is one that combines a near random selection of history, nature, and art. The Fairbanks museum fits the bill. It leans most toward natural history, which is fine with me, but there is no way to know what kind of exhibit is in the next case or around the next corner.

Lots of stuffed birds and animals, and some really great japanese small ivory carvings. Also, in the planetarium, a show of "space happenings". Fun. Worth a visit if you're in the area.

We are amazed by the gorgeous starry nights in the Northeast Kingdom and wanted a refresher on astronomy. So we decided to check out the Fairbanks since they have a special presentation about the constellations! We loved the visual and time progression during the presentation. (okay so I "rested my eyes" for a few minutes during the first part but... More

The exterior and interior of the museum are beautiful. I love the glass and wood cabinets--the victorian cabinet of curiosity design. An excellent small museum. So glad I made the trip! The planetarium was fun and quirky. I loved hearing the stories of the constellations. There is an interesting collection of strange dolls on the second floor. Collectors of all... More
