This cemetary has everything- beautiful hand carved angels, memorials in the shape of cars, balls, and traditional carvings also. Many skilled granite workers of Italian decent made beautiful memorials for their families and themselves. Go the Rock of Ages Granite Quarries first to learn how the stone is extracted from the ground, and get a book that details many of... More

Stone masons from the nearby Rock of Ages granite quarry many of them originally from Italy are responaible for the unique, beautiful and sometimes strange headstones in this cemetary. One has a husband and wife sitting up in their bed, another is a soccer ball, another a Canadian maple leaf and yet another a race car. The intricate carvings that... More

The variety and quality of the granite memorials is a tribute to the skills of the sculptors and imagination of of those wishing to immortalise their loved ones. I enjoyed our visit to Hope Cemetery. The cemetery was not exactly what I expected, but the stones were beautifully carved from granite by master stone cutters and it was worth a visit. This is certainly not a typical cemetery as the headstones have been personalized to reflect the interests/life of the person interned and a number of them are... More

The craftsmanship put into these granite markers is superb, inventive, whimsical, exquisite, touching...I could go on. At first it feels a bit disrespectful to be oggling people's gravestones as a tourist, but then you realize that is the intent. The stone carvers would be proud to know their work is being admired. My favorite - the angel resting her chin... More

We drove to Hope Cemetery from Concord, NH hoping to see some great fall foliage on the way. We weren't dissapointed. The cemetery itself is a great place to visit. It was nice to see the departed being remembered by the things they cherised. That art work in granite is just amazing! We spent about an hour appreciating the art... More

Hope Cemetery is an interesting side trip to take, after visiting Rock of Ages Granite Quarry, in Barre, Vermont. It is a lovely cemetery, with many headstones carved by the now deceased craftsman. We saw a golf ball, a race car, and many religious statues/headstones/memorials. Lots of pretty trees and shrubs, and the place isn't that big, so you should... More
