Wonderfully helpful guides and staff. Lovely gardens. Esp. loved the bird blind and seeing all the great white egrets (March) in mating plumage. Boat ride was fun as well. Allow at least 2-3 hours to see it all unless you are in a rush. More

A reasonably artistic garden and grounds donated by a wealthy local named Stark. In April and May, don't miss the bird blind on the far side where hundreds of greater herons, egrets, and cormorants are nesting and raising babies. Allow 1 hour. $5. More

Lots of egrets are nesting now (April). We even saw baby egrets in the nests. My husband and spotted four alligators as well. The gardens and ponds were beautiful. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. They were eager to tell us about the gardens. The boat ride was fun. The price of $10 for adults was a bargain. More

What a great place to visit. We took the kids to the FREE Annual event for Earth Day @ Shangri-La - (usually there is a nominal fee) http://www.shangrilagardens.org and all the children and adults were given envelopes with butterfly's to release at a specific time. It was a wonderful and educational way to spend a beautiful Sunday afternoon. The gardens... More

I cannot say enough about Shangri La. We visit often and enjoy it each time we visit. The volunteers and staff are courteous, friendly and very knowledgeable. The grounds are beautiful, clean and well maintained. You can truly spend hours here. The children's garden is educational and fun. My daughter has attended camps and programs hosted at Shangri La and... More

This is about as good as it gets in SE Texas. The story of this place is a tribute to a rich man's dream and the foundation that subsequently took over. Beautiful gardens, interesting boat tour, lots of "wow" moments that will inspire and awe. A definite Must Visit and a return trip is on my list. More

This botanical garden and "green space" in the small town of Orange Texas was a delightful surprise. It was built according to the highest environmentally friendly standards. Offers a bayou boat ride where egrets, spoonbills, alligators and other wildlife can be observed in the water and on the shoreline. It is a "birder's" destination and even those not that intereted...
