Off the beaten track near Luckenbach is this cool little gem. Yes you can see the bats leave home each night during their season, but it is so much more. Walk around; this is one of the prettiest corners of the hill country. The views are among the highest anywhere in central Texas. I always marvel at the time it...

Unfortunately, we came across this while driving away on Sunday afternoon. Even without the millions of bats, the view is breathtaking!!!! Let the person that deals with car sickness do the driving though! We can't wait to go back and see all of the bats!

Definately worth the $5 to go to the lower observation area. About 30 minutes before the bats come out, the park ranger gives a presentation about the cave, the bats and other interesting facts.
We have friends that live nearby and they had never been to the cave. They went with us and they really enjoyed it.

some really nice walking trails to experience here even if the bats are not in season or in "off" times of the day. Their phone number will provide the approximate departure time of the bats. Definately worth the drive south of town!

Tip check out the texas Parks and Wildlife website, for the highest bat concentrations, for their is a time in the...

We dropped by on a Monday afternoon not knowing what to expect. No rangers and the bathroom were closed & locked up. But, you could still walk down to the tunnel (hand rails all the way for little kids or seniors) and walk the trail. We could smell the bats & see them at the end of the tunnel. Very...

Be sure to call ahead - the bats fly out at different times and you don't want to miss them (we did the first attempt). The rangers usually give a short but informative speech before the fly-out.

We went late in the afternoon. Enjoyed the walk! No bats and it was an easy hike (we are hikers). Would go again!
