I did not see the interior of this house because it is closed on Tuesday the only day I had to see it, but I looked carefully at the exterior and was totally horrified by its state of disrepair. Rotting wood and surfaces so filthly I would not want to even touch them made my first impression a really saddening...

The Mabry-Hazen House Museum, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is located on five acres atop Mabry Hill and includes the 4-acre Civil War Bethel Cemetery. This stately, elegant home of the Victorian and Civil War periods showcases one of the largest collections of original artifacts including, china, silver, crystal, and antique furnishings. Built in 1858 and housing three generations of the same family from 1858-1987, the Mabry-Hazen House served as headquarters for both the Union and Confederate troops during the Civil War. If you are visiting Knoxville, make sure to visit this historic treasure.

It was very meaningful since I was marrying into the Mabry family, the home is just as it was when Evelyn Hazen lived there. It is a very historical place and it was wonderful.

This house is beautiful, light and airy, and full of the original furnishings. The setting is lovely, situated on a hill, overlooking Knoxville. Our docent was full of information and related her story with enthusiasm and feeling. The house has been occupied only by the original family and so, has authentic family possessions.
