Downtowns are dying throughout the US. Some are revitalizing. Rapid City is one that has capitalized on Mt. Rushmore and found a niche with the President's statues. Great pedestrian amenities.
We live in Rapid City and have nothing to gain by this rating of our downtown but the chance to share it with others. Our downtown is hopping in the summer with different events most evenings and during the winter we have a new ice rink in the outside square. Don't overlook the Elks theater downtown featuring the largest screen... More
Love this downtown. Great restaurants. Good stores. Water fountains in the summer turn to outdoor ice skating in the winter. The city provides lots of free entertainment, such as concerts and outdoor movies, every week - especially during the summer and fall. Free president's museum is interesting. There is info you can pick up about downtown next to the center... More
First visit the Presidential Museum on the corner of 6th. and St. Joe...and then head out with your map of the Presidential Statues on almost every corner of the downtown area. They are life-size bronze statues and taking your picture with one of the leaders of our great country is the perfect way to feel like you are with the... More
with its excellent shopping, clean streets, and interesting street scenes, Rapid City is one of the better kept secrets, though it is growing.
We were there when there was a parade in the street. We enjoyed this experience because this doesn't happen in Australia.
Liked the Presidents walk. Not to much open on a Sunday when we were there. But still enjoyed the walk around the area.
Quaint, small "city", the presidential statues on each corner are very detailed and interesting. No noticeable safety issues, it's remarkable that there are no empty store fronts. A variety of shopping, dining, and bars are available.
Old fashioned buildings, some renovated, some new designed to blend into the circa 19890's to 1920's style. Spotlessly clean. Some very good restaurants and nice boutiques. People are pleasant and welcoming
