Located on the Capitol Grounds off Capitol Lake, this statue was built in memory of Governor George Mickelson and several other important South Dakota men who died in a tragic airplane accident in 1993. This is a beautiful statue of stallions fighting fiercely and bravely.

I grew up in Pierre and remember distinctly when they built this. I was there for the memorial and sang with the Capitol City Children's Chorus to remember the former governor. I think it is beautiful and enjoy sitting by it. They put up some nice flower displays around it too along with the Capitol Lake right next to it....

This beautiful but tragic sculpture sits on the Capitol lawn so it's worth seeing it when visiting the capitol building. The horses seem to be alive. The sculpture is from Gutzom Borglum, the amazingly great artist of Mt Rushmore.
