Built on an old railroad route, nicely maintained trail gives plenty of choices of where to get on or off along the 100+ mile trail. More

We rode the trail three different days on a recent stay at Hill City and Spearfish Canyon. Er rode from Hill City to the Crazy Horse mOnument and back (uphill there; downhill back), from Mystic to Dumont and return and from Dumont to Sugarloaf (one way). The Mickelson Trail is a wonderful trail to ride, bike, or horseback ride on. It is a converted railroad bed that takes you through some wonderful scenery. There are places to rent bicycles if you need to in Hill City and in Custer. You can view the Crazy Horse sculpture along the trail 5 miles North of Custer. If you... More
