I like Revolutionary War history, and this is a good place for that, especially on the weekend they re-enact the local battle. It is also interesting to see where much of the movie "The Patriot" was filmed. More

It is not near anything - funny how those settlers hundreds of years ago didn't think about how convenient it would be for us to get to their home - but it was worth the scenic long drive from Columbia. They've restored things so well, you get a really great feel for how things were. The gentleman at the desk... More

We usually stop here if we have to pass by and the day is nice. My children love the history and running around the grounds. More

Historic Brattonsville is a top-notch living history museum. The Bratton family, of Scotch-Irish descent, settled and was prominent in York County over decades. There are 18th century buildings, plantation houses, events virtually every weekend and school tours during the week. Our grandchildren love it! The got to observe sheep shearing, then personally card and dye the wool. The oldest girl... More

Brattonsville is a unique historic gem. The structures on the property span 3 centuries from the frontier days to the early 20th century. A great family day trip. Make the Battle of Huck's Defeat or the Candlelight Christmas event if you can. More

You have to try the Fried Indian Bread (the ham and cheese was awesome)! The period costumes are amazing. The knowledge of of the volunteers was fascinating and very educational. A final battle at the end of the day was very dramatic and LOUD! Cannons, muskets and revolvers oh my! My husband and teenage son enjoyed it. Gave me a... More

We went during Dec. when they tell the story of how Christmas was celebrated during the history of the house. It is a walking tour by latern light. May want to carry your own flashlight and dress warmly. Hot cocoa and goodies sold at the end of the tour. Have been several times it was so enjoyable. More
