We saw the Mary Whyte watercolor exhibit "The Working South". It was fabulous! I have never seen detail like that in a watercolor exhibit.

Right off the main street it is easy to pop in an enjoy an hour or two looking at the art. It is a small museum with two floors.

Unless there's a special show, you can go through this whole museum in an hour. Mostly 18th century portraits and landscapes - not my favorites.

We toured this museum on our visit to Charleston because admission was part of a 2 day ticket we purchased at the visitors center. it is a very nice, well organized museum and we were glad we had taken the time to explore it.

This is a great trip addition as this museum is an "Art History" of South Carolina and the Low Country. It can easily be seen in under 2 hours but is certainly a different view of SC than the plantations, the beach etc.
If you have any interest in either SC history or southern artists this is a "don't miss"...

Worth a visit just to see the bust called the Veiled Lady. Exquisite piece. Often has local artists featured. Once I lucked out for a sweetgrass exhibit!

If you start on the first floor and end at the top, you will have received a very interesting tour of Charleston's history. It is outstanding; don't miss it!
