If I didn't know what the market was like before the remodel, maybe I could give it a better review. The entire area is now a tourist trap. You can hardly walk from one building to the next without a tour bus in your face -- even on a Tuesday. Thank goodness there was no cruise ship in port. What... More

Centrally located and well-laid out, but unfortunately there was relatively little variety in the merchandise sold. Mostly expensive sweetgrass baskets, some clothing offered. Some nice stores on either side of the market itself,. Worth a visit, but keep expectations low.

The Old City Market seems to be the go-to destination for every tourist, resident, college student, etc who comes to Charleston. Everything Charleston is available here, from hand-made sweetgrass baskets, to lowcountry recipe books, spices, nuts, and clothing, to Gullah artwork, to the usual tourist items. It is almost always crowded, some kiosks don't fit in with the Charleston theme,... More

The Charleston is hyped in a lot of guide books and it was a big disappointment. Much of the merchandise being sold is mediocre and has no relationship to Charleston and the low country. Several of the places with local items were significantly overpriced. The only interesting part of the market is getting a chance to see some of the... More

Enjoyed the visit thru the market. Were a little disappointed by the amount of items you find about anywhere. But, there were a fair amount of local contributors as well. It's all indoors, so you don't have to worry about the weather. There is a little eatery in one the buildings you can get a bite to eat or drink.... More

Come here to shop for the best Charleston has to offer. Great deals can be found for sweetgrass baskets, artisan crafts, food, and other items native to Charleston. Here we enjoyed tasty free samples of food, bought some interesting crafted art pieces, and visited their restrooms. So visit the market, and take a little bit of Charleston home with you.

This multi-building market has a wide range of goods - from your typical tourist junk to locally produced arts and crafts, food and the wonderful sweet grass baskets. No need to spend a lot of time here, but should include this on your list of "must sees" for a Charleston visit.

The old city market is a very good family activity. They have arts, crafts, trinkets, books, souvenirs, and much much more. Most of the hand crafted goods are from the local artists. There are a few things that are manufactured overseas. They have a ton of variety. If you want to get a drink they have an enclosed area that... More

There's a wide range of items, from tacky to elegant - something for everyone. I'm more of a browser than a shopper, but I still found some nice souvenirs for the family. We enjoyed the snacky treats and were happy to find decent bathroom facilities.

My husband and I had a great time exploring the Old City Market. It was a much larger market than we originally thought! There were many unique items for purchase at medium-to-high prices. Overall, we would recommend going there although it was a bit touristy and crowded at mid-day.
