The Verdier House was a pleasant and relatively inexpensive way to spend thirty minutes learning a little of the history of Beaufort. The docent was very knowledgable about the house and it's history and had pleasant way of sharing her enthusiasm for the house. This is an old house built in the 1700's. The docent was knowledgeable and quite interesting to listen to. The architecture was interesting especially the crown molding. Furniture in the house is to period but was never in this house. All furniture was stolen/destroyed by the slaves or Yankee troops. The house is still undergoing restoration. Admission was $10 per... as a Beaufort resident, i'm always impressed at the dedication of people in this small town to preserving their history. the Verdier House has displays and occasional lectures about Beaufort. this includes not only the old line families (who gave the town over to the Yankees in 1861 without a fight), but also the Gullah (slave) culture. it's a great...
