As an Aussie icon, everyone who travels the Hume Highway should at least stop once in their lifetime to have a look at the dog on the tuckerbox. Its nothing special but the stop is a good break to stretch your legs and learn about the history of the dog.

There's not really much to say about the Dog on the Tuckerbox. It's an icon and compulsory stop for photo taking. I have pictures of me at age 3 at the DOT and of my children at the same age. 'Nuff said!

My parents told me to visit it on the way from Melbourne to Canberra. My sister and I were expecting something a little bigger, so it was a little disappointing from that point of view, but great to be able to say I've seen it.

The legend of the Dog on the Tucker box is well known in Australia. There was not enough here to make me want to return but it is worth a look.

If you are passing this way on the Hume Highway into or out of Riverina country make sure you turn off to Snake Gully (near Gundagai) just to see this whimsical icon to Aussie folklore.It won't take long and it is a chance to take a break from driving.
