Pros: very fascinating museum with huge collection; start in the last floor (3rd?) with natural history and the planetarium (open only during weekends); in the second floor find a collection about industrialization and development in Pennsylvania; then find the art collection in the first floor; find also a small piece of a town from the good ol' days. Cons: parking... More

The museum is small but has a nice layout. One of the newest exhibits is a full skeleton of a mastodon. This museum hasn't changed much since I was a kid, especially the area with the north American wildlife exhibit. Since it isn't that big, it would be good for a child's first museum visit.

I had a great afternoon out with my wife for only $5 per person. There was plenty to see with three floors of displays and a new area being installed on our visit, which should be open soon. The museum had more than enough to keep you occupied for a good half a day, perhaps with a coffee in the... More

The PA State Museum is a museum showing some of the history of Pennsylvania. There is enough displays and artifacts one could spend a number of hours here exploring. It's in downtown Harrisburg and next door to the state Capitol building. Only a mile or so from major highways. Free admission. Parking across the street. Definitely a family affair especially... We enjoyed our visit to this museum of everything Pennsylvania or in some way relating back to Pennsylvania. We were told the Civil War exhibit was closed because it is being expanded and improved. Something to look forward to on our next visit. If you include the planetarium, this museum could easily take half a day for interested adults to... More

I enjoyed the museum part, it was very clean and informative. My husband and I were VERY disappointed with the planetarium. Small, seats were uncomfortable to have to "look up" the whole time and the movie we seen "Ice Worlds" I had to sit sideways the whole time and it was kinda boring. However, it was priced very cheap, only... More

This museum always had a lot of interesting exhibits to keep visitors entertained and informed. There is a planetarium show as well. I went to this museum when I was young, and took my son when he was a child. Next i will be taking my grandkids!
