Tumallowa in Native American means icy creek, and is thought to be the origin of the name of Tumalo Mountain, Tumalo Falls, Tumalo Reservoir, Tumalo State Park and the town of Tumalo, all situated in Central Oregon in the vicinity of the city of Bend. I had to laugh when I saw that Tumalo Mountain is listed as being by... More

A good, tough day hike with some nice views! If you're looking for a short few hours on the trail, this is a good choice with a view at the top.

While this is not my favorite place to hike/ski in Central Oregon, it does make for a nice, short, easy hike as well as a fun place to randonee ski. Whether for a quick jaunt after work or an easy place to take visiting friends/family, the view from the top is beautiful and the trail is very accessible. The biggest... More

Drove up Tumalo Mountain to the falls ...WOW ...loved it! A nice hike to the falls, and for those that are a little more adventurous there is a trail that leads down to the bottom of the falls ...you can even walk behind the falls ...you get VERY wet, but it felt good on a 90+ day!

This is a great little hike with some amazing views at the top. There was quite a bit of snow still (95% ground cover I'd say) in early July. But we managed it with only hiking boots just fine. Only saw two other groups of people on this day, but I would imagine that changes during peak seasons.

About 3.5 miles round trip, this hike provides a nice short hike to fantastic views of the Three Sisters, Mount Bachelor, and Broken Top Mountains. Start from the Dutchman Sno-Park up trail 38. The hike is up hill all the way to the peak. While they may have to take some breaks, any well conditioned 10 to 12 year old... More
