The Tom McCall Reserve is an easy destination, a short drive off I-84. Offering killer views of the Gorge and mouth of the Klickitat River. Hike down to the top of the cliffs or up to the summit for a even bigger view. Can be very hot and windy. No dogs allowed. Watch out for the Poison Oak! Rehydrate at... More

Amazing views of the Rowena Crest and Columbia River. Completely different landscape/climate east of Hood River.

I hike this all Spring when the balsom root and lupine are in full bloom. Spectacular view from the top. Watch out for mosquitos in the summer... not sure where they come up but they will attack you in swarms in July.

We went looking for wildflowers, but they were past peak. This place does have nice views of the Columbia River. If I lived in the area, I would enjoy walking here, but I wouldn't drive long distances to come to this place, particularly if it weren't during wildflower time.

Balsamroot was accented with blue lupine and a myriad of other much small wildflowers. The preserve has a lower, shorter trail with views of wildflowers overlooking the Columbia Gorge. A longer, higher... More

I was lucky enough to visit the area when the balsam root and lupine were in bloom. The viewpoint is very pretty with or without the flowers, but the flowers made it all the more special.

If you want to see the famous Gorge wildflowers, this is an excellent place for it. Typically, the best time to view the flowers here are mid-April to late June, but it is a beautiful spot regardless of the time of year.
