You'll have to travel to Greenfield Village to see his shop, but Edison's actual birthplace is close by in Milan, along with two packed historical museums and houses on the same street to tour. This town has one of the best Christmas displays I've ever seen and they used to have a marvelous Christmas Tree lane to visit. The town... More

My friend and I arrived a few minutes after the museum opened and enjoyed a tour of the office area filled with unusual contraptions. Each was explaind and all of our questions were expertly answered. Our curiosity was satisfied with the professional tour of Edison's birthplace. It was as complete a tour as i could have hoped for and I... More

I thought I knew all about Thomas Edison. Boy was I wrong! This tour was fascinating, and the history presented most impressively by a very young gal (high school?) I must say though, that this is not a tour for anyone who has difficulty with stairs.

We stopped about an hour before the museum was to close. The guide gave us a great tour and was well informed about the house and Thomas Edison. Even though we came late we were not felt pushed in any way. After the tour of the house she took us out back and explained the importance of the canal in... More

I have now been to two of Edison's homes. The little museum and period houses and the tour left me a little wanting but I guess the important thing is the house is still there and it housed the most important inventor in American History (sorry Thomas Jefferson). This is definitely not a destination museum (like the Marine Corps museum... More

It may be a bit pricey, but worth it for history buffs. You walk through the actual house where Edison was born and lived for 7 years. The downtown Milan area is small but also worth exploring, then head north for a meal--lots to choose from.

While I can appreciate visiting the birthplace and home of Thomas Edison, I wasn't as impressed with the exhibits and information as that found at the Glenmont Estate in West Orange, New Jersey. Also, the staff seems gives the impression that the mere mention of this man's name should be enough to enthrall the visitor. Perhaps they should visit sites... More

We visited this national landmark, Thomas Edison's boyhood home, a couple of years ago during an Ohio weekend trip. We also went to Cedar Point (separate review) and the Football Hall of Fame. Mr. Edison's home, which was also his birthplace, is situated in a lovely, small "Americana" town not far from Sandusky. The tickets are very reasonable and we... More
