Get here on a warm summer day, as the gardens and the walk to the lake are a must. The house itself takes about an hour to wander round and has loads of curiosities and of course ghosts....the tea room is pretty spectacular too. Enjoyed the place, it's a half day out, not a full one though.

The Estate is closed on Saturdays - so be warned..... however there is access to the 'permissive path' around the estate land from Ros Castle hill, where you can park by the roadside. The way is marked, but the path and estate map can be downloaded here http://cwr.naturalengland.org.uk/default.aspx?Site=5927 The views and wildlife are spectacular. You will need walking boots as... We arrived to be taken on a sightseeing tour of the rare breed of cattle they have there but, unfortunately, there was no-one about. The rough terrain to the carpark was really dreadful and the car suffered with all the stones and bumps. When we parked up we were the only vehicle in the carpark and no sign of any... More

I've read the other reviews and can understand some of the comments, however, we had a wonderful time. I think you need to note...THIS IS A MEDIVAL CASTLE! It is NOT a luxury castle stay! Once you get that...the rest is wonderful! Joyce was a delight to work with and made our reservation process very smooth. Our room was clean... More

Though cluttered, and a tad on the over priced mark, it was fascinating to wander around and take it all in! You must visit the tearoom!

Lots to see, although very cluttered, would be good if there was more info telling you about the rooms and the owners!! The minstrels tea rooms is very cosy :-)

For £9 for each adult it was quite simply a rip off. Instead of being able the to delve into the castles history you get the chance look around rooms of possessions of an 'eccentric' old man. If this was £2 then it might have been good value. WARNING if you are asthmatic do not visit, the need to employ... More

I visited this castle with my family and we spent a very enjoyable afternoon exploring. What an eccentric and eclectic mix of artefacts! The castle is dark, dusty, very cold but you can't help but to be enthralled by the sheer 'quirkiness' of the interiors. Tip - if you have children invest in the family quiz. As always, the children... More

We liked the informal way this castle is arranged. Not as precious as other properties. But advice to the owner; DO stop depositing any more random wordwormy junk from what looks like house clearances in your ancient castle. The lily is already overgilded. And MAINTAIN what you already have. I feel (well controlled) dogs should be allowed in the grounds.... More

Really interesting and quirky castle very spooky feeling as soon as you enter the grounds being interesting in ghosts and the paranormal it was right up my street there was lots to look at but wrap up if it is cold because its very icy feeling in the castle wether that's due to the weather or the ghostly presence who...
