We had heard a lot of good reports about this little pub and we weren't disappointed. We enjoyed a great ploughmans and lively conversation with the barman and other patrons which made this one of the friendliest pubs that we have visited in the New Forest.

Live on the edge of the forest and travel around it most weekends and have to say this is my favourite pub of them all. Great selection of real ales, friendly staff and locals and simple but nice food. It's how a pub should be and we'll worth a visit...or even a number of visits!

Awful weather, nowhere to park and rain coming down by the bucket load - what a great start to visit a pub new to us and recommended by our hosts for the day. Once inside all was warm, friendly and welcoming. As many reviewers have said, great beers and drink and the lunchtime menu was satisfying for what was offered... More

We've visited here a number of times for lunch following walks in the forest. Its extremely popular with walkers, and can get very busy. They have a few tables inside, a few in a marquee and then plenty of benches outside. Think roaring log fires and ales on tap. Menu doesn't seem to have changed in years. They offer hearty... More

Low ceilings, log fires, real ale and a fine ploughman's. Simply the best walkers' pub in the New Forest. Thoroughly recommended.

What a lovely pub for lunch. Generous portions and the food was delicious. Small pub but well worth waiting for a table in this extremely popular and busy pub in the Forest. Lots of room outside when the weather gets warmer.

Tucked away off the main roads and in the New Forest this delightful pub fully deserves its 'highly recommended' status. The beers, drawn from a barrel are well kept and there is a wide array of them; the menu is simple and the food excellent. I go with a largish group which makes the pub crowded - but there is... AgaIn, an excellent lunch of home made quiche accompanied by a good selection of real ales. Love this place. All pubs should be like this. Excellent home made food! The best of British?

Just had a cracking Pink of ale had pulled from the barrel & bowl of ham & barley soup for a quick lunch stop. Sat in front of a fine open fire on this February day. No wonder this place was awarded best country pub in The Good Pub Guide a few years back. I would imagine this place can... More

Been to this little gem a wonderful atmosphere and caught up in a time warp... remember to take some cash.. right in the heart of the Forest and does a super Ploughman's lunch. Log Fire and a little quaint thatch.
