As in a previous review, park at the bottom of the white horse, not the visitor centre, It was free and there are a few picnic tables available if you want to use them. Firstly, wear good walking boots/footwear. Secondly, from the car park at the foot of the horse you would struggle to get a good impression of it... More

we parked the car at the visitor centre at the top of sutton bank ( £4 parking ), after crossing the road turn left, and its a easy walk towards kilburn, the white horse isnt that impressive to be fair and it does need some money spending on it, the best way to view it, is to take a walk... More

If you don't mind climbing hills it's worth the walk just for the view. You can get to the Horse from Sutton Bank if you're not keen on climbing!

Fantastic scenery and easy walks to give probably one of the best views in the country, weather was kind which makes a difference. Interesting watching the gliders take off and land

The Howardian Hills are family favourites for short trips out from our home just north of York. Especially in the spring, we follow what we like to call our various "flower" routes. The first every year is the "snowdrop" outing, followed then by the "primrose" and the "daffodil". They vary slightly, but they nearly always include one of the roads... More

In an area where there isn't much to do, going for a walk is often a good option, and this is one of the nicer places to go in Thirsk. Start at the car park at the bottom of the White Horse rather than at the Visitor Centre- it gets the steps out of the way sooner! You can admire... More

recently went up to the white horse with six friends, were all local and as it was snowing wanted to head up as we knew not many people would make the efforet in the heavy snow. unless you're in a 4x4 its advisable to park at the bottom and walk up but you wont be dissapointed when you get there,... Very friendly staff and a good range of food at a reasonable price. Just below Sutton bank it's interesting to hear the vehicles trying to climb it!
