We did a 2 day trip and as I hate camping I was very worried about this part of the trip. Some of my worries were well founded and others not so much. On the plus side: we got to see orcas both from the kayaks and also more than once from the beach. Both experiences were incredible. We also... More

My wife and I went on the 3 day trip kayaking/camping along the Johnston Straight with North Island Kayaks. Our guide Kristy was great and the whole trip was truely amazing. For e.g. after 5 minutes of paddling we we're greated by a pod of porposes. Over the whole trip we saw River Otters, jumping Salmon, Sea Lions which is... More

Ten of us took the 3-day trip and really enjoyed it. The scenery was fantastic and the guides were everything we needed and more. I recommend NIK and will look for a chance to paddle with them again. More

My wife and I took their 3 day Orca Sea Kayaking Safari in July. Their place in Telegraph Cove is a little difficult to find – we had to ask a local for directions. Went with 2 other couples we did not know – fortunately we all had good senses of humour and all got along well. Our guide Luke... More

To start with the drawbacks: if you want to be (almost) sure to see lots of orca and other whales, you should probably take a motor boat trip. Kayaks rely on the whales coming to you. Even taking this into consideration however, I think the kayak trip is one of the best ways to view the wildlife. From reading the... More

Our trip was AWESOME, 4 days with great weather, perfect guide, great food and lots of laughs. Dave, our guide was very patient and he was a great chef during our trip. I am sure he thought he had 6 mothers along with him!!! Orca's were part of our trip and humpbacks said good-bye on our way home. A great... More

I'm going to start by saying I don't do camping but my yearning to have that Perfect whale encounter meant I found myself booked onto a 3 day tour with my husband. I was very nervous, mainly about the lack of showers and having to use a compost toilet... I shouldn't have been. From start to finish this experience was... More

My partner and I did the overnight orca trip at the beginning of August and had an amazing time. Our guide, Luke, was very knowledgable and made the whole trip a really special occasion. We were very impressed with the organisation of not only the trip itself but with the booking system. We had had to change our dates of... More

Absolutely no hesitation in recomending North Island Kayaks. We went on the five day Broughton Archipeligo trip in June and had a great time. It totally lived up to our expectations. Our friendly and easy going guide Dave ensured that our trip went smoothly, his knowledge of the area, the tides, the currents and the weather made for trouble-free kayaking... More

We did the 3 day / 2 night “Orca Safari” trip during mid-June and absolutely loved it! We were fortunate enough to have 2 guides (Kristy and Wendy), which made for a fantastic trip. Both were fun-loving, easy going individuals who were incredibly knowledgeable on the surrounding flora and fauna. Both made safety the paramount aspect of the trip, which... More
