We are located exactly 9 miles from beautiful downtown Highlands, and 9 miles from downtown Franklin. We are 1/3 of a mile from the breathtaking Cullasaja Falls (means "sweetwater" in Cherokee). Also, 5 miles from Dry Falls (seen in The Last of the Mohicans). Our guests can browse our huge rock shop and gift store, or eat hot boiled peanuts on our front porch overlooking the beautiful Cullasaja River. Our gem mine is all weather fun for the whole family. Macon County is considered the "Gem Capital of the World" for a reason! Come and buy a bucket to sift! Small Buckets are $10 each, and one per person. Ultimate Buckets are $30 each or 2 for $50. These buckets are big and can be shared! We also have a $100 Bucket Club. This bucket is great for families. With this, you receive a $45 free cut of a gemstone that you find! Chuck is a master lapidary and we can help you choose what would be the best thing in your find to cut! We are handicapped accessible and very kid/pet friendly. « less

Our kids ages 7, 10, 12 had a wonderful time sifting and panning or gems but the real delight was in having 4 of the gems polished and cut! Our girls were so happy with their 6 carat pink and blue topaz pendants! they were ready the very next day. Mom also chose to have a pair of garnets cut... More

Although we didn't do any panning due to such a rainy day we did shop. Great little store and nice people. More

Stopped here for grandchildren to search for stones. Bought 2 large buckets to begin with and got many different stones, kids enjoyed it so much, bought 2 more large buckets. Everyone had a good time, the young man behind the counter outside was very helpful and friendly. Will go back next time in the area. More

This is a fun place. When we entered the main store we were asked if we wanted to look for gems or purchase gems already polished and cut. We paid $100 for a huge bucket of sand, rocks and hopefully gems. We sat down at a trough and were given two scoops to dig out the material. We both had... More

We love Jackson Hole. My son, now 15, has had birthday parties and several school outings at the gem mine. It is clean, a great value, and FUN! The staff is gracious and knowledgeable. Another plus, Holly makes gorgeous jewelry. If you have kids, or even if you don't, Jackson Hole is a Highlands must do. More

We went to three different mines on the same day and this one was the easiest to sift. They put the gems in sand and there is a covered sluice to sit at. All very civilized and non-messy. You can purchase buckets of various sizes and they will assist you identifying the stones. More
