I have gem mined before but this was my husband's first time. We chose this mine because it had been reviewed by the Travel Channel several years ago. We had so much fun looking for rubies...had a total of 8 buckets and red mud on us. We did find some rubies and 2 were large enough for earrings. Richard was... More

We were very thrilled with the experience at the mine. The staff was very helpful. The whole family found rubies including our 2 year old. Looking foward to going back soon.

Been twice. It's messy but fun. Bring an extra pair of shoes and bring snacks and drinks. Lots of fun for kids and adults. It can be too hot in the summer, so watch out.

Staff at this mine were very helpful and friendly, but we didn't find much in the 6 buckets we went through. Largest stone was 11 carats. I understand it wouldn't be called gem hunting if you always scored but we had better luck elsewhere.

My family and I visited this mine in July 2012. Finds are slim, actually none for me in the native buckets. Which is really pretty normal from my experiences with other mines native dirt. However, even in the enriched "rainbow buckets" the finds Were not the greatest compared to other mines. The buckets are small for the price compared to... More

We paid $15 for each for 2 adults and $10 for a boy. Our payment came with 6 buckets of 2-gallon dirt. You get to pick either the native dirt or rainbow. Native dirt would allow you to find red rubies and not salted with gem rocks. Rainbow dirt is salted with gem rocks but no red rubies would be... More

Been there many times when we have family visiting. There is a special area for young children (salted) so they are assured of taking home some very special gems! Husband found a 37 carat ruby - my best is 19. Owners are very good at helping you ID your finds.

The cost is $15 for most people, $10 for kids and people over 60. You get two starter buckets for that either native or enriched. I got two native buckets and ended up with four small rubies and two small sapphires. My husband took one native and one enriched. He didn't find anything in his native. There were some nice... More

We spent a couple hours finding gems at Sheffield. I loved how they had us shake and clean our gems and before we threw it away, they checked our gems for us in case we missed anything. My husband found a 38.5 "Honker" ruby and I know we would have thrown it off in the reject pile if it wasn't... More

This is the best place to find rubies and sapphires! The fellows working the line are awesome! Still looking for a "Honker"!!! You can bring your lunch and even use their microwave. Kitchen gloves are helpful to bring with you!
