If you're counting on striking it rich, then don't go gem mining in Franklin, but if you're looking for hours of "GOOD CLEAN DIRTY FUN!," Rose Creek Mine can't be beat. We've mined there 10-12 times since 2009, and each visit has been thoroughly enjoyable for our now 13-year-old son and his 40-something parents. The staff goes above and beyond,... More

This is a fun mine if you have young kids. My 7& 11 year old loved it. My 12 yr old liked it. We bought them a salted large bucket for $40. They found large gems & it gave them each a big bucket of their own to sift through. The younger ones liked more of the instant gratification. We... More

Fantastic family owned spot. We were fortunate to get there at a slow time when we could visit with these laid back owners and their knowledgable employees. Everyone was friendly. Native digging was fun but the super buckets really get the kids interested in learning more. These people really know their rock and take plenty of time to identify and... More

We were in the area for a long weekend and wanted to try gem mining. Family group of adult girls, our daughters, and our mother. Mom had read reviews online about Rose Creek Mine, and we are glad she did. Had a great time, learned a lot, and went away with some nice finds. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Will... More

Got lots of nice stones. Had some set at Gem Factory into two rings & earrings. Experience was the best because of Tom & his staff.you begin to feel as if you're a part of the family. We had a really fun day. More

After going to several mines recommended by our hotel and being disappointed. We went back to our research on TripAdvisor. There are only two mines that have a permit to actually dig in NC. This is one of those mines. The others buy their dirt piles :). Linda and her staff were friendly, helpful and genuinely interesting. More

This place is easy to find off of SR 28. You have a couple of options for mining. You can dig your own bucket of soil from the mine or get a seeded bucket of the same soil. My husband and I did both. I found a few garnets and a ruby or two in the mine soils, but we... More

We visited three mines in the same day and this was the hardest to mine with the smallest yield. No entry fee and the small buckets were $6 which you had to fill yourself from dirt piles under a shed. The dirt was full of clay and the gems were very small. It was also a bit more out of... More

This is a wonderful place for the kids to have fun. We visited 5 mines in the Franklin/Asheville area and this one was our favorite. The staff was very friendly and answered any questions we had. You could purchase buckets loaded with gems or dig the dirt out of the pile and search yourself (cheaper). The prices were similar to... More
