Check out time at the vila's is 9 am, the first time many of the locals said that they had rain in February and we were home less, with 2 small children, ferry was at 4 pm, had a day to pass with "miserable" weather. Spent a bit of time at dome cafe before coming up with a plan. Went... More

We took the small train which is on the original tracks and line from the 1930's up to Oliver Hill to see the original 9.2 inch Gun and Gun placement and took the tour through the armoury and cordite rooms. This small one car train runs from Thomson bay town to Settlement (Kingstown Barracks) and then up to Oliver Hill which has a gun battery. The railway once carried munitions: it now largely carries prebooked groups. I bought a single ticket for A$10.50 and walked back to Thomson bay (5km indirect walk).
