fort itself was beautiful but inside lots of markets overpriced and pushy - better off to wander through the laneways and barter

Visited the old fort without a tour guide and without having any information on it. The open-air theatre next to it looked quite interesting, but again, no clues as to what it was used for in the past, but it looks interesting. Next time I think I'll have to ask more about it : )

not worth going all the way to see it. Fine and educational

The Fort is historically fascinating and I'd like more information to take away. Market inside is well worth a look. In February this is home to the fantastic Sauti Za Busara East African music festival.

just the walls are left in place of what used to be this fort that guarded the harbor. Inside are shops and an ampitheatre for entertainment. so not a lot of history left to it.

Good thing it is free to visit as there isn't much to see. Lots of tourist stalls inside selling just about everything. There is an amphitheatre inside where concerts are held; that is nice!

We enjoyed a short visit interesting building but not to fret if you miss it

The remains of the fort are still in tact however the interior area is now lined with souvenir vendors and local artists painting. Quite spectacular to see though.

Who knew this cool old fort would have some of the finest craftsmen we saw in all Tanzania inside? The items we bought and brought home are some of the most prized and unique from our trip. A walk around the ramparts is fun.
