We went to the butterfly park as part of a Tour that included Jozani forest, the manglar, and the turtle center. We had seen the signs on the road previously and it sounded very interesting. It was a great opportunity to take pictures of butterflies, since it seems quite impossible normally, but here they flutter around you the colorfoul little... More

I stopped off at the butterfly farm on my way between Jambiani and Stone Town. It was certainly worth it. I've visited butterfly farms in other countries and this one is unique in that local residents are actually raising the butterflies, or, rather, the pupae. Because of that you only see a small part of the whole operation at the... More

We visited the Zanzibar Butterfly Centre on a whim after a boat ride as we saw signs on the road for it, and WOW were we pleased to have stopped by!! The centre has been established to give local villagers an alternative livelihood to chopping down the forests, instead, encouraging them to farm butterflies, thus saving the surrounding forests and... I recently visited the butterfly centre with our tour group from Idaho. It was very informative and wel l managed. I was glad to see how involved the community is with the centre. Keep up the good work! More

The guide is friendly and knowledgeable and happy to answer questions. The butterflies are beautiful in a gorgeous tropical garden. And the project really does help some of the poorest people in a completely sustainable way. Almost next door to Jozani Forest where you can enjoy the red colobus monkeys. Good value at 8,000 Tsh and absolutely no hassle to... More

Our hotel suggested we visit here and it was a very nice experience. It has been years since my hubby and I have thought much about butterflies (other than trying to photograph them) and how they grow and pupate and such. We know how it goes but the center gave us a short lecture on it all again and there... More

Three friends and I went for a week-long trip to Zanzibar in March. While driving from Nunwgi to our next destiantion, Jambiani, we encountered something that left a very bitter taste in our mouths. For the second time in two days, our car was pulled over by military and police, and as they arrogantly strutted around our car they looked... More

This project is well worth a visit. The staff are excellent, friendly and know there stuff. The local community benefits from breeding the butterflies and the forest is protected for the benefit of the wildlife and the local people. Great project and you will get to learn a lot about butterflies - great photo opportunities too. Perfect in combination with... More

This is a very beautiful community project with tons of potential. Don't expect some fancy westernized butterfly park. This is still a young project run in a poor community, so their facilities are not yet the best. But given time and support, they can grow into a beautiful park. Definitely worth a visit if you're a nature lover. More
