Beautiful and quiet. Just check yourself for ticks when you get home - I found one on my back after we got home.

We spent a Saturday afternoon hiking the Camp Hero trails. We parked near the old radar station which is huge. Took a trail to the bluffs with a great lighthouse view. Then we took The Battery 113 trail which was amazing. There were wooden bridges over creeks on the trail, gently rolling hills and the hike took less than a...

Been traveling to Montauk for over 30 years. I never knew this was there. It has some great views of the ocean and lighthouse. We were there in time for a beautiful sunset.
I didn't really get Camp Hero. Maybe I didn't really see it clearly. There didn't really seem to be much there, except for the parking lot and a couple of trails without much adventure in them. Beautiful pristine place, sits on an ocean bluff. Still felt strange and creep, but enjoyed it anyway. Great view of the lighthouse.
Hard to relax and enjoy a walk when you are constantly advised there are ticks around! Nice walk and views of the coast, but not much to the military side of things. Lots of vandalism which is really sad.
Great for a fall afternoon hike. Interesting piece of history. Nice interpretive signs. Well marked trails.
You are not allowed to drive or park near the fishing beach entrance without another permit. (ie one for over night parking at the light house, one for weekend/holiday parking, etc. You can park in the large parking lot and walk down the road, about a 1/4 mile or take your chances of climbing down the cliff.
It's a former fort that now is a NYS park. You can check out the buildings, although none are open an the bunkers. You can see the huge radar tower from the lighthouse. It has a great walking trail. Bring bug spray and wear long sleeves and pants to avoid ticks. there are bathroom facilities and picnic areas but no...

There are old bunkewrs that once held big guns secretly guaring the shiplanes going to NT Harbors. This was a secret army base that was set up to look like a small fishing town...
