Easy walk through a fascinating natural setting including very friendly Deer. The stunted growth of the vegetation is very interesting. A bit hot during the summer but the beach is right there. More

There literally is a "sunken" forest-nothing like it anywhere I have seen-so different-you walk on a wooden path through this really amazing below-sea lever forest-then come out the other end at the most lovely unspoiled and un-crowded beach! More

We love Sunken Forest. It's quiet, has many easy trails to walk, bay and ocean access with lifeguards. A decent snack bar, and programs run by the National Park service. Great place to spend a day with the family and friends. More

Take the Ferry over from Sayville and enjoy the beautiful uncrowded beach and then take a nice walk on a boardwalk thru the sunken forest made up of scrub pines native to Long Island. You can get an icecream and a burger at Sailor's Haven where you get off and on the Ferry. A great way to spend a summer... More

It is hard to believe this is part of Long Island. Nice place to walk and explore. There is a beach on the other side of the forest. More

Just a really beautiful place. Was taken here by our friend on his boat. If you are on Long Island in the summer, try to visit here. More

This is one of my favorite spots on all of Long Island. Short hike on a boardwalk path through the Sunken Forest that leads you to the ocean side of Fire Island and one of the most incredible beaches I have ever been to in my life. Even on a beautiful summer day you wont see many people other than... More

It was great to visit and walk through, but the mosquitoes were FIERCE! Bring the bug spray and you will enjoy your visit! More

We love it here because we can escape from the crowds at Robert Mosses. If you go every week it can be expensive, but we seem to only get to the beach a few times a season so this is the place for us. We often walk East up the beach towards Cherry Grove for lunch. Be aware that this... More
