Glimmerglass opera has become a summer event I look forward to each year. If you are open to Grand Opera remaining grand without the voluptuous sets and costumes the Met is known for, Glimmerglass will help you appreciate how powerfully true "less is more" can be. The music and drama of the story lines have a chance to capture attention... More

Saturday's in August between the matinee and evening performance, sit in the balcony and watch the set changeover as crew members change out the matinee sets and prepare for the evening performance. Glimmerglass staff are available and answer any and all questions regarding the sets, the productions, and the company. The production changeover is a fascinating behind-the-scenes looks at how... In the PBS documentary "Baseball" by Ken Burns, historian Manuel Marquez-Sterling talked about his love for baseball and opera. However one describes them, opera and baseball... More

I had my first visit to Cooperstown in July 2006 to visit a family member there for the summer and was enchanted by the area's beauty, charm and variety of interesting tourist destinations, particularly Glimmerglass Opera. While not an opera maven by any means, I was nonetheless thrilled with the theatrical experience. I saw Barber of Seville and had an... More

We have been subscribing to the Glimmerglass Opera season since 1996 and ever since doing our annual pilgrimage to Cooperstown to see some remarkable opera performed in a remarkable place. The Alice Busch Opera House is a fantastic construction with retractable side walls in a cow paddock overlooking the lake. This opera house has only one compromise,no airconditioning, but it... More
