The High Road to Taos is the only way to go! This route takes you from Santa Fe to Taos by way of picturesque village such as Truchas and Chimayo. A couple of cool stops--Chamaya worth the drive. But could be done in a drive from Santa Fe and then the regular road to or from Taos.

The high road to Taos is breathtaking, definitely take it, and it's not difficult to drive. It takes about 2-3 hours to get to Taos, including pit stops along the way. The geology is just gorgeous. Thought the drive was good until we saw the stunning views on the Low Road! Virtually no traffic. Takes longer to get from Santa Fe to Taos, and when the views are so much better on the Low Road, I wouldn't do the High Road again.

Head this way to Chamayo for a wonderful day trip. Enjoy the unique scenery art shops and old churches along the way. Be sure to have lunch at the Ranchero de Chamayo Restaurante and check out the art shops in town. The small mission in Chamayo is a must see and has a great story on how it was started.

A great way to meander through the old flavor of New Mexico. Chimayo has changed but the Santuario is still the same. The weaving in the area is tempting!!
