“Interesting wildlife area south of Las Vegas NM”

This is a large wildlife area which we visited in the winter. We were the only visitors and were surprised to see a large numbers of birds--kestrals, hawks,snow geese,etc. A few lakes,one with a raised viewing area. If you are in the area you should visit this free attraction. More

We were there mid August. Saw lots of birds, Swainson's hawk, Kestrals, and a Prairie Falcon. The observation deck has two scopes for viewing water ducks and birds. It was a very productive birding trip. They are working on a walking loop near the visitor center. We didn't see anyone the entire time we were there. I was told that... More

This refuge is for true bird lovers as there is a good variety but not an abundance like you will find several hours south at Bosque del Apache. There is no visitors center and the signage is lacking to get there. More
