Hiked up to the Mizpah hut with a group of friends. We were off season so the dining staff was not working yet. The hut caretaker was very helpful in getting us oriented to the grounds and facilities. Gave us weather updates and had the kitchen usage very organized with a time sign up sheet among our fellow campers. The... More

I have twice stayed at Carter Notch hut in NH in early winter. It is a great 'entry level' wilderness experience providing an overnight winter trip without taking the plunge of winter camping. In winter there is no meals service so you carry in and pack out all your food. There is drinking water, boiling water and a gas cooker... More

I stayed in six of the eight huts: the brand new Madison Spring, Lakes of the Clouds, Mizpah Spring, Zealand Falls, Galehead, and Greenleaf. Accomodations are basic (bunkbeds, bring your own sleeping bag or sheets) but fine. The croos were uniformly friendly and helpful. The food was better than I expected at 5000'. My only complaint is that they turn... More

I hiked the Ammannoosuc trail with my teenage daughter and her friend to stay in the AMC Lake of the Clouds hut at Mt. Washington last weekend and it was truly amazing. I am not in the greatest shape so the hike was really challenging and I realized how much a person needs to prepare for hikes like this to... More

I think that the croo needs to be more realistic about the amount of food that is being served. They seem to be cooking way too much. The night that pasta and chicken were being served, our serving container could have served at least 2 or 3 other tables. There were way too many pancakes cooked at breakfast, as well.... More

Just got back from a trip in the white mountains through the AMC. The conditions were so bad that professional guides canceled their trips. Already in a hut and ready to travel to another hut, we were not advised to change our route. We were exposed to 0 degree temp in hurricane winds. The hut was missed because of 0... More

My husband and I hiked up to the Carter Notch Hut on July 3rd to take in the beauty and serenity of the woods, a quiet way to celebrate the birth of our nation, but an eminently rewarding one. The 19 Mile Brook Trail led us up through pristine forest lands, abundant with wild flowers and butterflies, and the sound... More
